He was born in Athens on 11 October 1962. He entered the School of Naval Cadets in 1980, where he graduated on 8 June 1984. Vice Admiral (retired). Alexandros Diakopoulos has served the Armed Forces from many different positions. He served in Frigates, Missile Boats, the Naval Helicopter Command, the Fleet Headquarters, the General Staff of the Navy in various staff positions, as well as in the General Staff of National Defence as Director of International Relations and in the Ministry of National Defence as Deputy Director General of National Defence Policy and International Relations (DGPEADS). He has also served in the Chief of Staff’s Office of the Chief of Naval Staff, as Naval Spokesman and in the Greek Embassy in Ankara as Naval Attach\u00e9. In the context of his command duties he has served as Captain of warships (with the naval destroyer “AIDON” he participated in the NATO operation “IFOR” in 1996), Commander of the Naval Helicopter School, Commander of Naval Helicopters, Commander of Naval Training, Commander of the Naval Cadet School and Commander of the National Defence School. He retired with the rank of Vice Admiral in January 2019 and was awarded the title of Honorary Commander of the National Defence School.<\/p>\n
In addition to various career schools and the Naval War College, he has attended the Coll\u00e8ge interarm\u00e9es de D\u00e9fense of the \u00c9cole Militaire in Paris and holds a Master’s degree in Defence Studies, Geostrategy and Geo-economics (Diplome d’ Etudes Superieures Specialisees en D\u00e9fense G\u00e9ostrat\u00e9gie et Dynamiques Industrielles) from the University of Paris II in Sorbonne and a Master in Public Administration (MC\/MPA) from the Harvard Kennedy School (John F. On 1 August 2019, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced the creation of the position of National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister and appointed him to this position. He resigned from his position on 19 August 2020. On 02 February 2024, he was appointed President and CEO of Hellenic Aviation Industry. He is a frequent contributor to the daily press on International Relations, Defence and Foreign Policy. <\/p>\n
